Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the services at VEG ER for Pets

IS VEG OPEN 24 HOURS?

Yes, all VEG locations are open all the time – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – even on holidays and weekends to care for pet emergencies.

DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

At VEG, we don’t take appointments, because we deal with emergencies. When the unexpected happens, call us or walk in to your nearest VEG location 24/7 for immediate care.

HOW DO I KNOW IF IT’S AN EMERGENCY?

Never self-diagnose your pet. Sometimes you just can’t tell if your pet is having a true emergency. But VEG can. Call your local VEG anytime and a veterinarian will answer your medical questions and determine if you should come in.

CAN I GO TO VEG FOR URGENT CARE?

Yes, VEG offers Pet Urgent Care for injuries and illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, limping, wounds, ear infections, eye problems, and constipation! Visit your local VEG and we’ll triage urgent care for your pet immediately. Learn more about the medical services we offer.

WHERE CAN I TAKE MY PET BIRD OR EXOTIC PET IN AN EMERGENCY?

VEG is skilled to handle emergency care for avians, reptiles, and all types of exotic pets.

DO I HAVE TO CALL BEFORE COMING IN?

Though you can just walk into any of our 24 hour hospitals, we recommend calling first so we’re familiar with the situation when you come in.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT VEG?

When you take your pet to VEG, you’ll be seen by a veterinarian right away, even before filling out paperwork. We’ll even meet you at your car if you need help bringing in your pet. No waiting in the lobby; you stay with your pet the entire time, even if surgery is involved. And yes, we’re pet lovers, but we’re people-friendly too! We’ll openly discuss diagnosis and treatment options. And we always make sure the pet patient and pet parent are as comfortable as possible.

Absolutely wonderful experience with Dr Martin and Alli and the rest of the team from the moment we walked in last night (and even before, since I called on the way)! The facility is clean and welcoming, staff were all attentive and supportive, everyone made us feel calm and cared for in an emergent situation and we got the best possible care! Highly recommend for any emergent needs. Hope we won’t need to return, however, know that this will be my first call in the case of another emergency in the future. Thanks so much to the team who helped care for my pup!

Veg ER provided my baby Ace with exceptional care and attention. The staff made us feel comfortable and gave Ace his own little super soft blanket! Dr. Bailey was very informative and professional! With all that was happening in the ER, Jessie was able to care for other patients and still give Ace great customer service! I can only give 5 stars but the service was a 10 out of 10!

As the guardian of an extremely fearful dog who can experience severe fear, anxiety, and stress at the vet, I was genuinely blown away by the care we received at VEG. My dog’s body language was not only noticed, but deeply respected, and the team worked collaboratively to help him feel safe enough for handling and diagnostics using a compassionate, low-stress approach. The care extended to me as well with snacks, drinks, blankets, reassurance, clear communication during shift changes, and constant check-ins during an incredibly stressful experience. Potato recovered beautifully post-op, his incision looks amazing, and he came home clean, comfortable, and clearly well cared for. The open-concept environment fostered such a strong sense of collaboration, transparency, and community. You can feel how much VEG values continuing education, teamwork, and both human and animal emotional wellbeing. I left feeling incredibly grateful and hopeful for the future of the community at large.
