We will always send patient records ASAP after your patient's visit at VEG is complete, and will even facilitate patient transfers back to your practice, if desired.

For cases that require continuous post-op care, your patients can be admitted day or night.
Whether it’s for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), respiratory distress, polytrauma, organ failure, or other medical emergency, our vet team will monitor and assess needs throughout your patient’s stay. To help ease stress on the patient and pet parent, your customers are welcome to stay overnight at VEG with their pet. We'll care for your customer's comfort, providing a pillow, blanket, wifi, and plenty of snacks.
24-HOUR ER CARE
We’re open 24/7 for a reason: some cases can’t wait. That’s why we created an after-hours phone triage for customers. When your customers call, they’ll be directed to us and speak with a doctor who will advise whether their pet can wait to be seen by you or if they should come in for immediate care. To set up this service, reach out to your local VEG medical director.
Our doctors are trained in the full range of veterinary emergency surgeries, including but not limited to:

Our vet staff is trained and equipped for minimally-invasive foreign body retrieval.

This includes CBC, chem, PT/PTT, blood gas analysis, blood typing and crossmatching, point-of-care infectious disease testing, urinalysis/SediVue, cortisol, proBNP, and more with same day results.
From blood transfusions, oxygen therapy, toxin treatment (including lipids), envenomations (including antivenin), to feeding tubes and advanced catheter placement, we are ready 24 hours a day to help our patients.
We accept birds, reptiles, small mammals, and we’ve even treated a goldfish or two. Basically, if it fits through the door, we’ll treat it!

Common questions about the services at VEG ER for Pets
What is the customer experience like?
At VEG, customers are welcome to be with their pet every step of the way. At our open-concept hospitals, pet parents and their pets are not separated. Have a customer that doesn’t want to leave their pet overnight? No problem! We invite pet parents to spend as much time as they would like with their pet, even if that means staying the night. We'll provide space to rest, pillows, blankets, wifi, and snacks to make their stay as comfortable as possible.
How can I transfer a patient to VEG?
Whenever possible, call ahead to let us know a patient is on the way and send along medical records ASAP. We want to pick up where you left off, not redo what has already been done e.g., we won’t replace well-placed IV catheters or rerun blood work that has already provided answers. We strive to make the transition from your care to ours as seamless as possible.
Does VEG provide doctor consults to rDVMs?
Absolutely! Whether it's a consult over the phone, or having one of our doctors scrub in on a procedure with you, we aim to partner with you in any way possible. Our doctors are available for phone consultations 24/7.
Can VEG hospitalize my patients overnight after I perform a procedure?
Of course! If your patient isn't ready to go home at the end of your day, we ask that you call ahead whenever possible. We'll want more information about the patient and procedures that were performed to effectively monitor your patient overnight.
What types of cases can you hospitalize?
We hospitalize and treat all types of cases. From the simple monitoring and IV fluids overnight, to the more complicated DKA, respiratory distress, polytraumas, etc. If you have any questions about what care we can provide, please call! We love finding a way to say yes!
Does VEG send patients back to their family vet for any follow ups?
All we do is emergency! We aim to work with you, and your customers are yours. When care with us is complete, we send them back to you for follow-up and their regular wellness care, unless you would prefer otherwise.
Can VEG doctors triage my customer calls when my practice is closed?
We are always happy to talk with customers when your office is closed. Talk to your local VEG about our after-hours phone triage, where your customers can automatically be directed to us for answers when you aren’t available.
