Dr. Veronica Villanueva

Dr. Veronica Villanueva

Medical Director

Colorado State University; Western University of Health Sciences

Dr. Villanueva (V) was raised in Albuquerque, NM, but her heart has always been in SoCal. She graduated from Colorado State University (Go Rams!) with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in Neuroanatomy/Biomedical Sciences. She went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA, in 2011.

After graduation, Dr. V was accepted into a competitive, AVMA-approved small animal emergency and surgical rotating internship at Pet Emergency and Specialty Hospital in Thousand Oaks, CA. During this internship, she discovered her passion for small animal emergency medicine and exotic pet care. She returned to New Mexico, where she served families and their pets for over eight years, before making her way back to Southern California to provide compassionate and practical care for pets of all kinds.

Her special interests include emergency surgery, critical care, endocrine emergencies, wound care, pain management, diagnostic ultrasounds, and mentoring fellow veterinarians. Dr. Villanueva has a special place in her heart for senior and geriatric pets and values the human-animal bond, no matter the species.

Dr. Villanueva enjoys spending time with her husband Anthony, their daughters and son, and four-legged babies: Kiki (a French Bulldog), Clementine (a Pug), and Torkoal (a Desert Tortoise). In her free time, she loves listening to music, practicing hot yoga, fishing, and watching Major League Baseball.

Visited them today because my dog swallowed a big piece of pork bone. None of my previous dogs had ever done anything like this, so I was honestly freaking out. I searched around and decided to go with VEG ER in Anaheim since they had the highest reviews. It was a bit of a drive, but 100% worth it. The staff and doctors were all super friendly, and the clinic was really clean, organized, and had an open layout that made it feel less stressful. Everyone took the time to explain what was going on, and I never felt pressured into anything. One thing I really appreciated was how transparent they were with pricing. After discussing the treatment options, they texted me a rough estimate before moving forward. The emergency exam fee was around $200, and the Maropitant 10 mg/mL injection to make him throw up was about another $200, plus the other medication and treatment fees. My total came out to about $835. They were very upfront about the costs, and they also accept CareCredit if you need it. The injection worked, and my dog threw up a decent amount of the bone, but there were still some pieces left. I decided not to do a second round because the medication can make them pretty drowsy, and I didn’t want to put him through more unless it was absolutely necessary. For now, I’ll just be monitoring him closely and hoping he digests the rest without any issues. Hopefully I never have to come back for another emergency, but if I do, this will definitely be the place I go. Thank you to everyone at VEG for taking such good care of my pup and helping calm an anxious dog mom. 10/10, highly recommend ✨

I can't say enough about the care we received at this emergency vet. When my almost 3-year-old fur baby, Tobi, swallowed what looked like a crocheted sock on our walk, I was beyond scared. I couldn't find any emergency vets nearby in Chino Hills, but I was so fortunate to find this place. From the very first call, they treated me and Tobi like family. I was able to be right there with him every step of the way. No separation, just inclusion. They let me witness everything, from inducing vomiting to the X-rays, and they were so confident and calm, which helped me stay calm too. Ultimately the object was too big and needed an endoscopy with claw thing to remove which had me SHAKINGGG. They explained every single step, even when I didn't fully understand, and I felt so included, like we were part of their family. They were not just attentive to Tobi, but also to me, meeting both our needs and keeping me as calm as possible. Thank you to everyone--Bri, Elle, Sebastian, and Dr. Wickham, you made us feel so seen and loved. If you're looking for a vet who treats your pet and you like family, this is the place. Thank you all so much! I can't thank you guys enough!

I'd definitely recommend them. My husky does do well at vets, so they allow you to stay with your fur baby the entire time, they have an open layout where staff comes to you so you aren’t stuck in a room. They were extremely gentle with him and me… and I know we both felt more relaxed!! You can tell they love their job and are dedicated to taking care of your pet.
