WHERE CAN I TAKE MY PET BIRD OR EXOTIC PET IN AN EMERGENCY?

VEG is skilled to handle emergency care for avians, reptiles, and all types of exotic pets.

DO I HAVE TO CALL BEFORE COMING IN?

Though you can just walk into any of our 24 hour hospitals, we recommend calling first so we’re familiar with the situation when you come in.

When you take your pet to VEG, you’ll be seen by a veterinarian right away, even before filling out paperwork. We’ll even meet you at your car if you need help bringing in your pet. Best emergency vet I have ever been to. My pet and I were handled with care from the moment I called to walking in the door. They didn’t even stop to do paperwork and got me right in to check my cat’s vitals. Rob W was the nurse and he was so gentle and kind to my very nervous and shaking cat. It was clear they love animals and do everything they can to for pets and their owners. They not only let me stay with my cat the whole time but encouraged it. It is all open and transparent. He listened and asked good questions. I cannot say enough about how helpful and calming he was. Thank you to Rob and VEG ER in Cos Cob for taking sure good care of my baby.

I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for the doctors and staff at VEG. This is the second time we’ve been there, and they were so wonderful and supportive when we had to say goodbye to our boy, Duke. Today, our Lexi gave us a little scare and we had to bring her in, and once again, everyone was incredibly kind, compassionate, and supportive. We were lucky enough to have Dr Hannah Lindsay work with us both times we visited, and I truly can’t say enough about how kind and wonderful she is. In some of our most stressful and heartbreaking moments, she made us feel cared for and supported, and we are so grateful for her and the entire VEG team. ❤️🐾

We had to take our dog, Gary, in for a minor injury (torn claw that had to be removed) and I was super impressed from the moment we walked in. No questions asked, because it was obvious what the injury was, we were taken straight into triage, seen straight away by the nurse and then again by doctor 10mins later. She explained the whole process of what she recommended (sedation, removal, follow-up care, antibiotics and painkillers) while also asking if we understood and if we had any concerns. What I especially loved about this place was the open and transparent environment of the facility. It felt like being in a human ER. We were practically in the middle of all situations and treatments and we were so close to Gary all the time. Often, at other places, you send your pet off to a backroom and you have no idea what’s going on. VEG ER is not like that. You’re literally sat with your pet through the entire experience. What’s also great is because you’re allowed behind the curtain, you get to see what else is going on. Behind us was a couple who had a cat with lots of complications and they had to make some pretty upsetting decisions. The vets were extremely kind, empathetic and patient with them. Which took a lot of time and time away from our dog being treated. BUT… because we were in the same room, we could see what was happening and were able to empathize with this family. We had a full visit time of 4.5hrs, which would usually annoy me, but because I was able to see everything going on, I truly understood why it took so long. I’m so impressed with this place that I wish they had a regular vet offer rather than just ER. I hope I never have to return, but solely down to obviously not wanting my dog to need it. If we ever need an emergency vet visit again, this is where I’d return. Recommend to all for any emergencies.
