Back in March 2025, we officially became VEG ER for Pets, refreshing our name and creating a brand new logo to match. With this change, our scrubs needed updating too—but instead of simply tossing our old-logo scrubs, we decided to reuse them for good.

At VEG we’re always looking for ways to support our VEGgies and create an experience that empowers them to do their best. Which is why we worked with FIGS, our scrubs partner, to launch a recycling program—giving VEGgies a way to put their old gear to good use. Beyond old-logo FIGS scrubs, the program accepted scrubs of any other brand and condition to further the program’s impact.

“VEGgies raised an important question about how to responsibly handle old-logo scrubs instead of letting them go to waste,” said Sarah Pruitt, SVP, Central Operations at VEG. “Partnering with FIGS gave us a way to turn that concern into action. For me, that’s very VEG: listening to our teams, responding in a way that reflects our values, and creating an experience where people know their ideas matter.”

Participating hospitals rallied around the initiative, with leaders across VEG helping collect and ship scrubs for recycling through FIGS’ recycling partner, SuperCircle.

To make things a little more fun, we also added some friendly competition. Hospitals tracked their recycling progress throughout the initiative, hoping to earn the grand prize awarded to the top-performing hospital: a FIGS sponsored celebration, complete with coffee, donuts, special edition underscrubs, and a live caricature artist.

From mid-October through January, our VEGgies showed up in a big way. 48 hospitals participated in the challenge and 4,813 scrubs were recycled in total. A huge shout out to VEG Oak Brook, our top performing hospital and grand prize winner, which recycled 559 scrubs in total. Other VEG hospitals had impressive numbers as well, including VEG Grand Prairie with 319 scrubs recycled and VEG Brentwood with 317.

“Real progress happens when action meets intention,” said Trina Spear, CEO and cofounder of FIGS. “Together, VEG and FIGS made a sustainable impact by turning old scrubs into new opportunities—diverting more than 4,800 scrubs from landfills and outfitting VEGgies in new FIGS scrubs.”

Instead of our VEGgies’ old scrubs going to waste, VEG and FIGS worked together to turn them into new materials, including fresh textiles, insulation, and more. Plus, our efforts kept 2,792 lbs of textiles out of landfills and avoided 7,141 kg of CO₂ emissions. That’s not just talk. That’s real impact!
