Dr. Allison Faust

Medical Director

University of Pittsburgh; University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Faust is a central PA native who grew up in Hershey, PA. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh (Hail to Pitt!) and obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania. After finishing her schooling, she began practicing as a primary care and urgent care veterinarian. She quickly developed a passion for emergency medicine and joined VEG in 2021 where she completed their NERD (New ER Doctor) Fellowship at VEG White Plains. She then helped open the VEG Philadelphia location in Center City Philly. During her time in Philadelphia, she completed the VEG ER Certificate and VEG Exotics Microcertificate programs as well as a Medical Director Apprenticeship. She is also actively involved in the VEG Campus Partners program in which she loves to mentor veterinary students. She has a special interest in all things feline, surgery, and leadership. Being able to improve the veterinary experience for the customers, pets, staff, and veterinary community in the Steel City is what drives her to be the best leader she can be for her team.

IS VEG OPEN 24 HOURS?

Yes, all VEG locations are open all the time – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – even on holidays and weekends to care for pet emergencies.

DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

At VEG, we don’t take appointments, because we deal with emergencies. When the unexpected happens, call us or walk in to your nearest VEG location 24/7 for immediate care.

HOW DO I KNOW IF IT’S AN EMERGENCY?

Never self-diagnose your pet. Sometimes you just can’t tell if your pet is having a true emergency. But VEG can. Call your local VEG anytime and a veterinarian will answer your medical questions and determine if you should come in.

CAN I GO TO VEG FOR URGENT CARE?

WHERE CAN I TAKE MY PET BIRD OR EXOTIC PET IN AN EMERGENCY?

VEG is skilled to handle emergency care for avians, reptiles, and all types of exotic pets.

DO I HAVE TO CALL BEFORE COMING IN?

Though you can just walk into any of our 24 hour hospitals, we recommend calling first so we’re familiar with the situation when you come in.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT VEG?

When you take your pet to VEG, you’ll be seen by a veterinarian right away, even before filling out paperwork. We’ll even meet you at your car if you need help bringing in your pet. No waiting in the lobby; you stay with your pet the entire time, even if surgery is involved. And yes, we’re pet lovers, but we’re people-friendly too! We’ll openly discuss diagnosis and treatment options. And we always make sure the pet patient and pet parent are as comfortable as possible.

I cannot being to tell you how grateful I am for this place and the staff. We had a very scary situation in the middle of the night. The amount of kindness, professionalism, and warmth that my dog and I received is unparalleled. We were immediately seen, and they quickly started tending to my dogs profusely bleeding ear. Their calmness helped calmed me down. They absolutely care for animals there. I could feel it, from each person that helped us. This isn't just a job for them. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

This place completely changed my perspective on emergency vet. The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, compassionate, and incredibly nice from the front desk, to the techs, nurses and doctors. They have a fully transparent approach to care where owners can be with their pets and witness treatment and procedures. Their plan to diagnose and treat my River was logical without unnecessary tasks that would increase costs. Our surgery to remove a foreign body obstruction was same day, they even offered to refer me to other places if I wanted to go elsewhere. The detailed records, notes, reports provided are on par or better than human healthcare (which is crazy to me). They saved my dog’s life and River is already back to normal just a few days after surgery. Thank you to Dr. Mauro, Dr. DiPaola and team for caring for River.

We had to say goodbye to our beloved Cuban knight anole, Ozzy, and I truly cannot thank the team at VEG ER in East Liberty enough for how they handled one of the hardest days of our lives. From the moment we walked in, they brought us back right away and treated Ozzy with so much care, gentleness, and respect. They were incredibly kind to both me and my husband, offering comfort, patience, and even hugs when we needed them most. They explained the entire euthanasia process step by step, making sure we understood everything and never once rushing us through the process. They gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye, which meant more than I can put into words. When we returned to pick him up, they gave us beautiful ink prints, a heartfelt card signed by multiple staff members, and they even saved us pieces of his last shed. Those small gestures meant everything to us. I especially want to thank every single staff member at VEG ER that took care of us. Losing a pet is devastating, but VEG ER made an unbearable experience just a little more bearable. I will forever and always be grateful for the compassion and dignity they showed Ozzy and our family.
