EMERGENCY VETS AND URGENT CARE IN Seattle, WA

welcome to VEG Seattle!

Dr. Melanie Bowden

Medical Director

Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Bowden worked in GP and ER in the first 3 years of her career before deciding ER was her favorite flavor of veterinary medicine! She then took a position at a multispecialty clinic and worked under a 5-criticalist team for nearly two years before joining VEG in 2021. She loves medical emergencies and coaching other doctors in procedures and surgery. Her favorite part about VEG is keeping people and pets together, and firmly believes that pets do best and heal faster when their family is nearby. Dr. Bowden lives with her partner, 3 dogs, and a cat. She loves outdoor adventures, including backcountry skiing and mountaineering.

Words cannot express how pleased I am with my experience at VEG. I am visiting from out of town due to my partner having a very serious surgery, and one of my dogs ended up having an allergic reaction that turned into a skin infection. Already very stressed from dealing with the coordination of my partner’s surgery, this was the last thing I wanted on my plate. I was absolutely sick to my stomach with stress since my dogs are basically my babies. I knew about VEG from several social media dog mom’s who have raved about it, and was so happy to see they have locations in Seattle (my city, Spokane, does not!) I called to ask about what to expect and the receptionist was very knowledgeable and kind. I headed down straight away. Once inside, I was greeted and triaged immediately. A vet tech quickly came over to take my doggie’s vitals and assess the situation. I was taken to a nice waiting area and offered snacks or beverages if I wanted them while I waited. The atmosphere is extremely welcoming and calming. The fact that I could stay with my dog the entire time to help keep her calm and occupied is a huge deal. Blanche is a French bulldog, so she has the typical breathing issues that come with the breed, and when she is nervous or anxious, she does tend to get very hyperventilate-y. During this trip, however, she was extremely calm and did not make nearly as much noise as she does during most vet trips. Within about 20 minutes, the vet who had taken our case came over to chat further about the things I had been doing at home to try to prevent the infection from getting worse and anything else that may be pertinent to the case. She then came up with a treatment plan and broke it down piece by piece and sent over a link for me to pay immediately, which was very convenient. After that, we waited for a little over an hour, which is totally understandable given that my dog’s condition was not particularly severe. Blanche was very entertained watching everything around her, getting lots of pets and love by every vet or tech that walked by and my being able to take her on periodic walks throughout the facility so she could check things out and sniff around. In the end, they decided not to do one item on the itinerary since it involved further access to the infection site, and they refunded me for this charge straight away. I was sent home with all the meds I needed except for a special shampoo that I had to order, which I was easily able to do with overnight delivery. VEG made an extremely stressful situation into a calm, reassuring, and professional experience. I truly hope we can get a VEG in my city someday soon! Thanks to all the staff for your wonderful assistance.

Really appreciate this place. A trip to the emergency vet is never fun or cheap, but this ER does what they can to make your pet and you more comfortable. I appreciated the open concept, seeing rounds and understanding the triaging process, and getting to be with my cat even during procedures. I'm also grateful for the overnight room where I was able to sleep with my cat on my lap for a few hours while we were waiting. Staff also provided snacks, drinks, and phone chargers. Every employee, from front desk to assistants to LVTs to doctors, is good at their job, and I hope they're well-compensated. Thanks for helping Lexi feel better.

Highly recommend bringing your loved pets here. The care and service towards the pets and their humans was above and beyond. Transparency is a value here as there is no bringing your pet “to the back” - every station is out in the open so you can be with your pet through every procedure and test. The staff has blankets and drinks for the humans to ensure we are also comfortable while waiting for our pets to heal. The demeanor and care from the staff was truly something I’ve never experienced at a vet before - I felt so taken care of and believed my dog was in the best hands possible. I walked in with my dog who had lethargy, loss of appetite, and diarrhea, and there was no wait, and urgency to solve the issue. What we though was an irritated GI tract was actually a flipped stomach, to which the entire team responded to rapidly and brought him into surgery. I was allowed to stay overnight with my dog while he was healing which helped the both of us with our anxiety. I have never witnessed this concept at a veterinary clinic before and I wish i could give 10 stars
