EMERGENCY VETS AND URGENT CARE IN Palo Alto, CA

welcome to VEG Palo Alto!

Dr. Michael Hyder

Medical Director

Dr. Michael Hyder joined VEG in 2020, starting at the White Plains, NY hospital before making the move to California in 2022 to join the VEG San Ramon team. He was eager to help bring VEG to the Palo Alto community and jumped at the opportunity to be part of its growth.

After a successful year, Dr. Hyder was selected to lead VEG Palm Desert, where he quickly developed a strong connection with the local community and everything the desert has to offer.

Outside of work, Dr. Hyder enjoys unwinding by playing video games, staying active with his husband, and spending time with their lively household: two dogs (River and Lee Pace), two cats (Jarvis and Niji), and a snake named Pandora.

Best vet ever! I’ve been here twice, once as a friend to someone with an adorable but sickly English Bulldog and once today with my Belgian Malinois. My dog has some reactivity to being in confined spaces with strangers, and the team here was so understanding and had a protocol ready to go to help him feel comfortable. We were able to be in a private room, and I was able to come with my dog during the x-rays. My dog was as comfortable as I think he could be during a vet visit and even made friends with some of the staff. During a time of high stress where my dog is sick and I’m worried about him, it’s nice to know that the team is treating my dog gently and helping to create a calmer experience for him. ❤️ The medical care he received was thorough and prompt as well. Dr. Sparks noticed some bone abnormalities that I would have never known about that warrant specialist attention. They are the best, wish this place wasn’t just for emergencies!

Very, very impressed with all aspects of my experience this morning with my Weimaraner Sadie. She had a red eye with some discharge and swelling. Thought it best not to wait for our vet appointment the next day. The staff and facility are amazing. Sadie is somewhat shy but she took to them immediately. Being able to stay with her is a huge plus. Many thanks to Dr. Sparks, Amy Grace, Regan and all involved. This was not a life or death emergency but if I am ever in that situation, there is no other place to trust my pets to. Turned out that Sadie had some sort of irritation which will resolve quickly with meds.

I had an emergency with my cat Sundae, and the team at VEG ER in St. Pete was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we walked in, we were treated with compassion, urgency, and genuine care—not just for Sundae, but for us as worried pet parents. A huge thank you to Dr. Nelson, Brittany C, Rachel, and Mike—their team effort in Sundae’s care made all the difference. They kept us informed every step of the way, made sure Sundae was as comfortable as possible, and somehow managed to ease our stress during a really scary time. It felt like we were all in it together, and that meant everything. On top of their exceptional care, they also did their best to work with our budget and offer options without ever making us feel pressured. That kind of understanding and flexibility is so rare, and we truly appreciated it. We’re beyond grateful for the kindness, professionalism, and heart this team showed. Thank you for being there when we needed it most.
