Dr. Michael Hyder joined VEG in 2020, starting at the White Plains, NY hospital before making the move to California in 2022 to join the VEG San Ramon team. He was eager to help bring VEG to the Palo Alto community and jumped at the opportunity to be part of its growth.

After a successful year, Dr. Hyder was selected to lead VEG Palm Desert, where he quickly developed a strong connection with the local community and everything the desert has to offer.

Outside of work, Dr. Hyder enjoys unwinding by playing video games, staying active with his husband, and spending time with their lively household: two dogs (River and Lee Pace), two cats (Jarvis and Niji), and a snake named Pandora.

We recently had a medical emergency with our beloved pet rat and rushed to the VEG ER in Palm Desert. From the moment we arrived, the experience was outstanding. The staff was not only professional and efficient, but also deeply compassionate and respectful. They treated our tiny companion with the same level of care and seriousness you’d expect for any larger animal. What truly set this visit apart was their exotic pet veterinarian, Dr. Horwitz, who performed the procedure. It’s incredibly rare to find a vet ER that has someone on staff with the skill, experience, and willingness to handle small exotic animals, and we are beyond grateful. The vet was thorough, kind, and clearly passionate about their work—and it showed in the way they handled our rat with such gentle expertise. Everyone at VEG ER was understanding and patient, walking us through each step of the process and making sure we were informed and comfortable. They didn’t just care for our pet—they cared for us, too. If you have an exotic or non-traditional pet and need emergency care, do not hesitate to come here. This team is absolutely incredible.

The most comfortable Pet ER experience me n my fur baby have ever had! It’s always a terrible time to take your pet to the ER, but everyone at VEG was so kind, responsive, and helpful, even while juggling a full house. They never made us feel like a hassle or burden, and even gave our cat a private room where we could wait with him since he was freaking out in the big open area. Dr. Diaz and all of her nurses were so warm and understanding. They explained everything thoroughly, answered all of our questions, and didn’t pressure or shame us for denying certain non essential treatments we couldn’t afford. Their online check in and payment system made the triage so much smoother. If you have an animal emergency, I cannot recommend them enough.

My dog had a medical emergency two nights ago that had caused her face and nose and jowls puffed up, and she was frantic and itchy. I called my normal vet. It was closed at the time and they recommended that I come here. Best thing I could’ve ever done!! The staff met me at the door and right away, took us to an exam room. Her vitals were taken, and then quickly after the vet came in and sat on the floor with her laptop to discuss what was happening with Roxy. She determined that she needed a Benadryl injection as well as one for nausea as she had been vomiting all day. Rather quickly a vet tech came in, took care of the injections, and we waited for the medication’s to take affect. Once it was determined, she was doing well they informed me they were going to send a link to my cell phone so that I could pay the bill. Payment was quick and easy and we were on our way with very detailed instructions on how to care for her in the coming days. The vet and the staff were amazing the following morning at 6 AM. I had a follow up question I was very surprised to be on the phone with the exact veterinarian who had treated my dog the night before! The facility itself is immaculate, shiny and new and very high-tech. Fantastic place!!!
