EMERGENCY VETS AND URGENT CARE IN Leesburg, Virginia

welcome to VEG Leesburg!

Dr. Tyler Barnes

Medical Director

Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine

As a Northern Virginia native, it was a natural choice for Dr. Barnes to return home after graduating from veterinary school. She began her career as a mixed animal veterinarian—think All Creatures Great and Small—where she discovered her passion for delivering compassionate, high-quality medical care.

In late 2019, Dr. Barnes transitioned into emergency medicine. She was drawn to the wide case variety and the opportunity to support pets and their families during critical moments. She spent three years at a large emergency practice before joining VEG.

When VEG opened its first Virginia location in Falls Church in 2023, she jumped at the chance to be part of the founding team. At VEG, Dr. Barnes enjoys “helping people and their pets when they need it most” in the open-concept hospital setting. Her professional interests include critical case management, emergency surgery, and mentoring doctors.

Dr. Barnes lives with her husband, two cats, and two dogs. She’s proud to serve the Leesburg community and excited to bring the VEGolution to Leesburg!

We found ourselves at VEG ER on a Saturday morning with our kitty, Dewey (not what we had planned, but alas). We were greeted by Aaron, who went above and beyond in terms of kindness, customer service, and making sure we were all comfortable. Dr. Landry was the veterinarian on duty, and I really appreciated her bedside manner, the time she took to talk with us and explain what she thought was going on with Dewey, and just her general personality and warmth. The wait was long as there were quite a few others there, but I wouldn’t have traded it for a shorter wait given how great the team was. I also want to give Vincent and Katelyn a shoutout. They were our vet assistants for the day, and they were both wonderful and kind even though Dewey wasn’t 😭

I don't think I could really put into words how much I truly appreciate VEG. I've been to the VEG location in Leesburg 3 times and each time I've been blown away each time. The first experience was a sad one but not because of VEG, our 16 year old cat was having seizures and Dr Reiss and her team were there in a heartbeat. They did absolutely everything they could to save her but unfortunately she didn't make it but their compassion and support through it all was so comforting. My second visit, our sweet 9 week old puppy, Tucker, got puppy strangles - Urgent care couldn't figure out what was wrong with him but within a few minutes of stepping into VEG I felt supported when Dr Anderson and her team made sure that he was triaged immediately and tests were run. She knew immediately what she was looking at and that made me breathe a sigh of relief especially that we caught it in time and it was curable. I felt so comfortable leaving him overnight, I got a call before bed and first thing in the morning, I was able to bring my boy home early the next day and the treatments have made him a brand new dog! He's very happy and healthy! My last visit was a few days ago and it was the most heartwarming and supportive experience of all. My sweet baby cat, Ryder, had to come in due to a fever that started at 104 and then spiked to 106, with no known origin of where it was coming from which terrified me to no end. The support I felt from the staff - Vincient, Sonya, Madison, Lily, Kaitlyn, Kelly, and Aaron just to name a few made me feel like I was with family. I was able to stay the night and they went out of their way to set up a bed for me in the room I was staying in so that I could stay with my boy. They made sure I had snacks and drinks so I was taking care of myself too. Dr O'Brien, Dr Mollano, and Dr Reiss - Thank you for saving him, for working to figure out the best approach, not making me feel crazy for any of my questions or suggestions, just all around making me feel like we were a team and he wasn't just another cat. I feel like thank you isn't enough but I really couldn't fully express how grateful I am for you. There is no one else I'd trust my animals with, VEG is an extremely special place with an extraordinary staff and the best doctors. Thank you for everything, you all have a very special place in my heart.

My dog was 13:year old female rough collie that started to decline in health as soon as she turned 13. She had been under care of my regular vet. Well on July 4th she started to have this weird whine bark; she had a similar behavior the night before but settled down. She seemed like she was anxious; so I tried to find out who could see her. I called the VEG in Leesburg and they told me to bring her in. ...I had told them over the phone I had decided it was time - she wasn't eating, could barely walk etc. I arrived; they came out to get her from my car and was already triaging her I had one person give me a glass of water while they were treating her ...they made sure I was comfortable while attending to my dog. The vet ran blood work and did a CT scan to confirm she didn't have anything wrong in her abdomen. They were also working on getting her temperature down but said it wasn't heat stroke. We decided the right decision was to let her go and the vet agreed. They took us to another room; the vet compassionately and caring let her go. She explained to me the process. The whole staff was compassionate and caring from the moment we came in to my dog's euthanasia. Today I got a card from them
