Dr. Beverly is originally from Buffalo, NY, and following undergraduate training in biomedical engineering, attended Cornell University for veterinary school. After practicing ER and general practice in the NYC area, he returned to Cornell University for residency training in Emergency and Critical Care. As currently the only board certified ECC specialist in the state of Vermont, Jeff hopes to be a resource for practitioners in the area, and to be able to help guide developing doctors to be well-rounded and confident emergency clinicians. His areas of interest include respiratory emergencies, shock management, and improving accessibility and efficiency of medical care for both pet owners and practitioners.

I have often found the other emergency vets in the area have staff too undertrained and not equipped to deal with actual procedures. When my cat accidentally swallowed a six inch piece of string at 12:30am Saturday, I debated about calling any of them for an hour. Then I remembered there was a new one I saw on Dorset Street. It was a very long night and they had to try a couple methods, but they were all so calm and pleasant and prepared to actually treat the problem there. Surgery was not necessary but they were ready if it came to that. None of the ‘sorry we can’t do that here you’ll need to wait to see your regular vet in two days’ I’ve gotten from the other places. I was so emotional and drained and dreading the wait for her procedure, but the rooms are equipped with futons! They even have pillows and blankets! I was able to relax and just focus on keeping my cat comfortable. This is a place that understands how exhausting the stress can be and how many people will spend the night unwilling to leave their pets. Their facilities are clean and everything is thought of; I was too upset to eat but I did see they had a variety of snacks and amenities. I’m so glad I made the call and gave VEG a chance. My cat was back to herself and string-free when I got her home. The cost is high but that is simply the nature of an emergency vet and was expected. Luckily we have pet insurance to cover some and they take CareCredit. Really glad VEG is in the area now.

5 stars is not enough. Our dog, Pepper, was treated like royalty from the moment we walked in. Everyone on the team was wonderful, and we felt very cared for, included, and respected. We arrived at 3 AM, after a 2 hour drive, and we were given a private room to rest in while tests were being given, even though we were welcome to stay with our pup during the testing. Dr. Helstein was so conversant with our issue, and clearly informative regarding the steps along the way toward understanding what was going on with our pup. Luckily, the tests did not show anything urgent, and we were sent home with all the necessary meds and food. Pepper is doing better now, and we know we can call VEG ER anytime with questions. Wish we had a pet vet like this where we live.

Amazing staff!! I have never needed to bring my sweet boy Bruce to an ER vet before. I am so thankful that VEG was the one I visited. Everyone who worked with me and Bruce were so kind and informative. They listened to my concerns about my boys tummy problems and helped ease my nerves while providing excellent care! Will definitely be my go-to ER vet going forward (fingers crossed that we aren’t there again for a long while!)
