Dr. Melanie Bowden

Dr. Melanie Bowden

Medical Director

Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Bowden worked in GP and ER in the first 3 years of her career before deciding ER was her favorite flavor of veterinary medicine! She then took a position at a multispecialty clinic and worked under a 5-criticalist team for nearly two years before joining VEG in 2021. She loves medical emergencies and coaching other doctors in procedures and surgery. Her favorite part about VEG is keeping people and pets together, and firmly believes that pets do best and heal faster when their family is nearby. Dr. Bowden lives with her partner, 3 dogs, and a cat. She loves outdoor adventures, including backcountry skiing and mountaineering.

VEG is skilled to handle emergency care for avians, reptiles, and all types of exotic pets.

DO I HAVE TO CALL BEFORE COMING IN?

I brought my kitten in last night and was seen by Dr. Weymouth and Nurse Mahala. I can't thank them enough for the care and attention they gave us. They were incredibly informative, took the time to explain everything thoroughly, and were so patient with all of my questions. They even stayed overtime to make sure everything was properly taken care of before we left, which really meant a lot to me. What I appreciated most was their honesty and professionalism. I never felt rushed or dismissed, and I could tell they genuinely cared about my kitten's well-being. I left feeling confident that she got the care she needed. Thank you, Dr. Weymouth and Mahala. I'm grateful to have a 24/7 vet I can trust with my pet.

The entire staff was amazing. I think the shout out is how well the team operates and treats the owners, fur babies, and each other. It’s obvious you all love what you do and it shows in how much you dedicate to every family. I’m floored by the level of care and skill each one of you have and bring to the table. Thank you for being so kind and understanding. Pretty remarkable to go from this to home in less than 48hrs.

My boyfriend and I adopted a puppy from a shelter on Monday 3/23. The next day, we noticed her spay incision was opened and appeared infected. We brought her to VEG because it was the closest animal ER that was open. We were asked immediately after entering what the problem was and got into a room right after. We did not have to wait for anyone to come in and Suki was evaluated right then and there. Everyone was so sweet and genuine and we could tell that they were taking us seriously. Suki got an ultrasound to check that her internal stitches were still intact and then we were given a mild sedative (gabapentin), pain medication, and antibiotic for her. We were expecting to pay a minimum of $1000 but the whole visit was a little over $300. We went to an ER for our cat a while ago that also only needed an ultrasound and it costed $1,300 not including the initial visit fee so we were pleasantly surprised by VEG’s pricing to say the least. Dr. Ella Macquisten was so great and understanding and also made sure that we were involved with everything and didn’t make any decisions without asking first. We were in and out within an hour and Suki is doing great. Could not recommend this ER enough.
