VEG Emergency Vet in Greenville, South Carolina

Let me just note that not every veterinarian or emergency group will even see an exotic pet, especially a large bird. VEG Greenville will! I went to VEG Greenville at midnight on a Friday night. I was met at the door and taken to a room immediately. A medical staff member immediately assessed my Moluccan Cockatoo (Layla) and was kind and gentle with her. Layla had fallen in her cage and was showing great distress. Layla is 26 years old, this has never happened before, we were very concerned. Despite the practice being very busy, I met with multiple staffers and had several sessions with Dr. Jones directly. After a thorough physical exam, Dr.?Jones ordered an x ray and discovered that Layla was egg bound. The staff administered meloxicam pain medication, fluids, calcium and I believe the last medicine was oxytocin (not sure of this name). Layla’s treatment was not rushed (I was there 4.5 hours) she was monitored, cared for and also shown a great deal of love. This morning, 36 hours after her first indication that something was wrong, we were blessed with an egg. If Layla had not been able to pass the egg naturally, VEG Greenville provided me with a detailed plan for her treatment- which would have included surgery. The staff was with us every step of this process and truly answered our prayers. Some quick points I want to make that may not seem important, but they meant a lot to our family. -The staff made us feel heard and treated Layla like she was the most beautiful and important patient in the world. -I was exhausted (besides the hour of night I drove 1 hr and 15 minutes to get there) and I was offered snacks, fresh coffee, water and soda. -The rooms were private enough, but still allowed me to feel connected and within reach at all times -The facility is modern and very clean -The facility is well staffed. -I was expecting to pay significantly more than I was charged. -I was sent an electronic copy of Layla’s X-ray and medical records. - I received messages of support checking in on her progress. - I liked everyone I had the pleasure to deal with during this experience. -Every technician we dealt with was Licensed. Their education and experience showed. Thank you so much to the entire “midnight” staff. Special thanks to Dr. Jones (very bright, gentle and detailed), Ashley (who Layla may love more than she loves me) and Taylor (who thoroughly radiates kindness) All of these women were superior at their job, took the role seriously, were conscientious and made this difficult (potentially life threatening) situation, somehow better. My newfound little kitten Chanterelle got herself trapped in a tight spot at home late on a Saturday night. She was stuck for a couple hours before I found her. When I discovered her, she was frantically crying and struggling. I got her free and found she had badly injured a rear leg and could not walk on it. I was afraid of how bad her injury might be. I called VEG and described the situation. Samantha was very kind and quickly made a good diagnosis over the phone. I felt they might be well qualified to provide urgent care. Upon arrival, I was taken to the cat room and immediately met with Nurse Ashley. She made a thorough preliminary evaluation. Also, Ashley and Samantha did everything to make sure we were comfortable. Dr. Edwards arrived within minutes. Both the nurse and doctor were very kind, caring and professional. Immediately they performed an ultrasound and then followed up with x-rays. It was their diagnosis that my kitten did not have any broken bones or internal organ damage. Throughout the entire visit, they clearly informed me of the costs of all procedures and made no pressure to perform unnecessary tests, etc. The nurse and doctor were happy to answer my questions and made sure I felt comfortable and informed throughout the visit. Their diagnosis was spot-on and over the next few weeks my kitten fully recovered. I was so happy! And, I was so grateful that the VEG team was there when we needed them. The VEG team are very professional and caring. They clearly love their jobs and love animals. The facilities are also worth noting: everything was spotless and clean, and the equipment was the most modern of any I’ve seen in any veterinary clinic. Thank you for taking good care of us!

When one of my worst fears came true and my cat Penny experienced a life-threatening urinary obstruction at 3am, her VEG team not only saved her life but also showed a level of compassion and dedication that’s hard to find elsewhere. Thank you so much to her team — Dr. E, Dr. Neal, Dr. Caldwell, Megan, Hannah, Nola, and everyone else involved in her care — for taking such incredible care of Penny and turning one of the most terrifying experiences of my life into one where I left feeling relieved, with my best friend still by my side. Her doctors performed life-saving surgery before dawn and went above and beyond in every aspect of her care, including patiently answering my endless list of questions. Her technicians were incredibly kind, hardworking, knowledgeable, and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed to be as comfortable as possible during our stay. As any emergency visit understandably is, our visit was expensive, but the team helped me save money in every way they could. I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for VEG. I’ll never forget the compassion, skill, and reassurance they showed me during the scariest night of my life.
