Dr. Jonathan Grindley

Dr. Jonathan Grindley

Medical Director

Baruch College; Tufts University- Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine

One reason Dr. Grindley says he loves helping pets: they can't speak for themselves! So, he takes great pride in supporting the human/animal bond. He’s also a fan of how VEG disrupts the industry and challenges the way we approach veterinary medicine, and of course, the great workplace culture. He’s the happy owner of an English Pointer.

VEG veterinary emergency hospital on Ralph Ave in Brooklyn is open 24/7 to handle any animal emergency in Kings County and the surrounding area. We offer expert pet emergency medical care and urgent care for all kinds of pets–including dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and exotics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the services at VEG ER for Pets

IS VEG OPEN 24 HOURS?

Yes, all VEG locations are open all the time – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – even on holidays and weekends to care for pet emergencies.

DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

At VEG, we don’t take appointments, because we deal with emergencies. When the unexpected happens, call us or walk in to your nearest VEG location 24/7 for immediate care.

HOW DO I KNOW IF IT’S AN EMERGENCY?

Never self-diagnose your pet. Sometimes you just can’t tell if your pet is having a true emergency. But VEG can. Call your local VEG anytime and a veterinarian will answer your medical questions and determine if you should come in.

CAN I GO TO VEG FOR URGENT CARE?

Yes, VEG offers Pet Urgent Care for injuries and illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, limping, wounds, ear infections, eye problems, and constipation! Visit your local VEG and we’ll triage urgent care for your pet immediately. Learn more about the medical services we offer.

WHERE CAN I TAKE MY PET BIRD OR EXOTIC PET IN AN EMERGENCY?

VEG is skilled to handle emergency care for avians, reptiles, and all types of exotic pets.

DO I HAVE TO CALL BEFORE COMING IN?

Though you can just walk into any of our 24 hour hospitals, we recommend calling first so we’re familiar with the situation when you come in.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT VEG?

When you take your pet to VEG, you’ll be seen by a veterinarian right away, even before filling out paperwork. We’ll even meet you at your car if you need help bringing in your pet. No waiting in the lobby; you stay with your pet the entire time, even if surgery is involved. And yes, we’re pet lovers, but we’re people-friendly too! We’ll openly discuss diagnosis and treatment options. And we always make sure the pet patient and pet parent are as comfortable as possible.

Brought our pup here after he was attacked by an off leash shepherd and they were great! There was a bit of a wait after he was assessed and was determined to be stable but there were other more serious cases coming in and they kept us informed at all times. They provided fresh baked cookies as well as other snacks for us while we waited. Everyone from the receptionist to the support staff and the doctor were amazing. We are beyond grateful for all of their help.

If I could give 20 stars I would. We brought Archer, our little kitty, in at 4:30 in the morning after he was trying to vomit and urinate at the same time. The team immediately knew exactly what the problem was and how to help, they stayed calm and shared honestly the seriousness of the situation. Archer had to stay in care for 36 hours and throughout the entire time every single person was truly so kind and sweet. Archer was given cozy blankets, cat tv, lots of yummy food and treats, pets, love and a quiet room to relax. Shout out to nurse Heather, nurse Amanda, Dr. Anderson, Dr. Mak, and Dr. Gao for all of their care and attention to all of our families needs.

I brought my Fiona in last week for an emergency. She had a really upset stomach, and I was so worried about her., She’s only two years old, my little girl. They treated us so well at Vet Emergency Group! They were fast and efficient.. The veterinarians were so sweet and kind. They quickly diagnosed the problem and now it will be later. My Fiona is all good thank God to them. I am forever grateful! I would absolutely bring her in again if I ever needed! Thanks guys! You were amazing
