24 Hour Emergency Vet Hospital and Urgent Pet Care in Allen, Texas

Dr. Jeremy Hoge

Dr. Jeremy Hoge

Medical Director

Arizona State University; Western University of Health Sciences

After earning his DVM in 2009, Dr. Hoge returned to the San Francisco bay area to practice at a busy general practice where he “did it all!” The practice started to do less urgent/ER cases and he started to feel burnt out. He remained a partner until the sale of the practice in 2019. His passion for veterinary medicine was fueled once again when he began relief shifts at the local ER. In 2023, Dr. Hoge was looking for a change and made the switch to VEG for the robust culture and the excitement of ER. Dr. Hoge most enjoys the growth mindset of VEG and believes keeping pets and their parents together is incredibly important.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I cannot say enough amazing things about VEG Allen and the entire team, especially Dr. Brown and the Monday night shift team (7/20). Our local urgent care veterinarian referred us to VEG after my dog, Koe, swallowed a corn cob. They had already attempted to induce vomiting without success, so after an almost hour-long drive, we arrived a little after 10:00 PM. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were greeted with smiles and immediately brought back. The hospital itself is unlike any emergency vet I’ve ever seen. Being able to stay with your pet throughout the process or see them at all times even if they required a procedure made an incredibly stressful situation so much more comforting. The team first tried a stronger medication to induce vomiting, but unfortunately the corn cob still didn’t come up. Dr. Brown sat down with me and thoroughly explained our options: endoscopy or surgery. She answered every question I had, never made me feel rushed, and had such a calm, reassuring presence that immediately put me at ease during one of the most stressful nights I’ve had as a pet owner. After talking with my husband, we chose to move forward with an endoscopy since it was less invasive, more cost-effective, and offered a quicker recovery. By the time bloodwork was complete, it was after midnight, and now my birthday. Spending my birthday at an emergency animal hospital definitely wasn’t how I imagined celebrating. Unfortunately, the endoscopy was unsuccessful because of where the corn cob was lodged. Once again, Dr. Brown patiently walked me through our options. She even told us we could have our regular veterinarian perform the surgery the next day if cost was a concern. After another conversation with my husband, we decided to move forward with surgery at VEG because, despite only knowing Dr. Brown for about three hours, I trusted her completely. I was able to watch through the OR window as Dr. Brown successfully removed the corn cob. During surgery, I mentioned to one of the nurses that it was my birthday. When Dr. Brown came out after surgery to tell me everything had gone well, she wished me a happy birthday and said she was sorry this was how I was spending it. That simple kindness meant so much. I stayed until Koe woke up from anesthesia before heading home around 4:00 AM. Before I left, Dr. Brown told me she would personally call with an update between 7:00 and 8:00 AM. At exactly 8:00 AM, my phone rang. She let me know Koe was doing great, explained the plan for the day, and said that if he continued eating well, he could come home that evening. When we returned that night to pick him up after my birthday dinner, I walked over to Koe’s kennel and immediately burst into tears. The staff had decorated his kennel with a Happy Birthday banner, put a birthday headband on Koe, bought cupcakes, a little plant, and a birthday card for me. After such an emotional, exhausting 24 hours running on almost no sleep, that thoughtful gesture was beyond anything I could have ever expected and meant more to me than words can express. The medical care we received was exceptional, but what truly sets VEG apart is the compassion, empathy, and humanity of every single person we encountered. They treated Koe like he was their own, and they treated me with so much kindness during an extremely stressful time. Dr. Brown and the entire Monday night team, you are all absolutely incredible. Thank you for saving my sweet boy and for turning what could have been one of the worst birthdays into one I’ll never forget for all the right reasons. To the VEG leadership team: if you read these reviews, please know that Dr. Brown and the Monday night staff deserve every bit of recognition. They are an incredible group of professionals who exemplify what emergency veterinary medicine should be. I sincerely hope we never have another emergency, but if we do, I will gladly drive an hour back to VEG Allen without hesitation. I will also recommend VEG to every pet owner I know. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I was SO thankful for the care provided to my baby here! I was out of town and family took my doggy in. I was so worried as he has Addisons Disease. The vet Nicole Huette, called me and went over results, my concerns, care I wanted, what she saw fit etc and made me feel so much better! Staff was kind from the first call and the entire experience!

So thankful for the knowledgeable and caring team at VEG Allen. My husky was sick last night and needed urgent care. The VEG team was busy with many cases (some more severe with ours), but they still made time to give our boy the focus and care we hoped for. From my first phone call, Alex was great. As an anxious pet parent, I probably didn’t make a ton of sense on the phone, but she was patient and caring and quickly got me the info I needed to help speed up the process. When we arrived at the clinic, Alex was attentive and helpful. After a very short wait, Dr. Rodriguez came to evaluate our boy. She was knowledgeable, calm, and so thorough walking us through the process and recommended care plan. We were able to be right there with our pet while they examined him which made things easier for him (and us 😉). I wish I had caught the name of the nurse who helped with our care because she was phenomenal as well. Dealing with a sick or injured pet is so stressful and scary since we have to make lots of assumptions, but this team exceeded our expectations and treated us with kindness - even at midnight! I will recommend VEG any chance I get. Thank you for caring for our boy - we were discharged with medication and thorough guidance on what to watch for and actions to take. We also left with the confidence that there is a wonderful place to care for any future urgent needs for our pets. Truly grateful.
